Join us for a small-scale early afternoon concert featuring the Estlund /Yanovskaya Duo: a flute and classical guitar ensemble that performs music ranging from baroque to contemporary compositions.
While still in high school, Mr. Estlund studied with Mrs. Mary (Spalding) Peck (Chicago Symphony), and two years later with Elaine (Clear) Oberg who studied with Carl Petkoff. He played in Chicago Chamber Orchestra under Armand Baker at age 18. He began teaching flute lessons at the age of 19 in Lincoln and later Streeter, IL, while in college. He earned a BME from Illinois Wesleyan University, studying with Sylvia (Kendrick) Boyd, later earning an MME from Illinois State University under the instruction and guidance of Max Schoenfeld. He has performed with: Bloomington Municipal Band, Bloomington-Normal Symphony, Chicago Heights Symphony, Kankakee All-Arts Council Chamber Orchestra, and Kankakee Symphony, and many other groups on a freelance basis. He has also been a freelance soloist since the late 1960s. He was a public school band director in Odell and Braidwood, Illinois, and later in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He also taught applied flute at Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee, Illinois. He is currently teaching lessons in his home studio and doing freelance performing on flute and saxophone.
