Find Us Stock House Brewery: Avec le Bois @ Stock House Brewery

Join us for a small-scale concert featuring Avec le Bois Woodwind Quintet, following Sunday’s Packer game.

Avec le Bois Woodwind Quintet formed in December 2011. The wind quintet is comprised of five musically accomplished young women, and is based in the Milwaukee area. Avec le Bois plays primarily classical music, which is well-suited for wedding ceremonies and other special events such as gallery openings and private parties. www.aveclebois.com

Drinks will be available for purchase at the brewery. Look for one to be named after the quintet, served as a special that day!

Find Us at Concordia University: An Afternoon of Americana @ Concordia University
Oct 27 @ 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Find Us at Concordia University: An Afternoon of Americana @ Concordia University

This afternoon will feature soloists Scott Lowery on guitar, and Eric Langford on mandolin.

We will be at the Lakeshore Bluff Amphitheatre (bring chairs) area unless the temperatures that day are under 60 degrees; in that case we will be inside at the school’s chapel.

Scott Lowery recently moved to Wauwatosa from SE Minnesota, where he’s been performing hillbilly heirloom classics, pan-fried blues, and organic originals for the past 20 years. Scott enjoys playing outdoors at farmer’s markets, pizza nights and backyard barbecues, and will plan to bring along extra implements of percussion, in case anyone wants to sit in with him.  He’s a charter member of the Beef Slough Boys, Turkey Creek and Northern Shoveler, with tracks available online from all of these groups. He plays six- and twelve-string guitar, harmonica, kazoo, tin whistle, and washboard.

Eric Langford of Waukesha plays mandolin in the bluegrass tradition: old tunes fused with elements of jazz, blues, and swing; moods ranging from haunting melodies to upbeat stomps. Eric was a member of the award-winning Liberty Bluegrass Band and has performed with several groups in the area.

WMV Special Event: “Insta-This Performance” Pop-Up Youth Recital @ Stories Framed Photography
Nov 2 @ 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
WMV Special Event: "Insta-This Performance" Pop-Up Youth Recital @ Stories Framed Photography

Open to any middle and high school students currently in private lessons, Stories Framed Photography is allowing us to come in to their space to perform a piece or two in front of a backdrop of the students’ choice.

Each student musician or composer should bring along his or her pre-prepared music, instrument, and willingness for an amazing photo op! Music stands and a Roland Go Piano will be provided. Parents and friends are welcome to come along, although seating will be limited.

Stories Framed will not be taking pictures at the actual event; they are simply allowing a great setting for students to be instagramed, etc.

Snacks will also be served.

WMV Special: JUX + Zoulek @ The Kneeland-Walker House
Nov 7 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
WMV Special: JUX + Zoulek @ The Kneeland-Walker House
Juxtatonal [JUX], a theatrical new music voice and cello duo, teams up with saxophonist Nick Zoulek to explore the concepts of relevance and vulnerability through a playful yet meaningful contemporary music concert. The program includes new commissions from JUX’s latest Relevance Project and works from both of Zoulek’s albums (“Rushing Past Willow” and “Enter Branch”) in addition to works for all three performers.
JUX aims to legitimize playfulness on stage, find creativity in a recreative art, and connect with audiences through compositions that blur the lines between music, art, and theater. In the spirit of this mission, JUX commissioned 14 composers for new works responding to the concept of relevance. The compositions deal with issues of vulnerability, self, privilege, gender, age, and culture.
In addition to collaborating with JUX to perform three world premieres, Zoulek will share some of his own compositions that include cinematic video projections. He explores new possibilities in saxophone performance, creating visceral tapestries of sound and has been praised as a “no-holds-barred engine of avant-garde exploration,” (Portland Press Herald) and “stunningly virtuosic, whatever the genre” (Wall Street Journal).
For more information about the artists, visit their websites: www.juxtatonal.com and www.nickzoulek.com.
Stick around for a small reception with the artists (included with your ticket) featuring mini hand pies by Hatched.

Symposium of Sound: Horn Ensemble Music with Allison Schweitzer @ The Little Red Store
Nov 9 @ 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Symposium of Sound: Horn Ensemble Music with Allison Schweitzer @ The Little Red Store

WMV Founder Allison Schweitzer is a hornist from Wauwatosa who currently plays with Avec le Bois quintet, is on the sub list for the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra and freelances otherwise in the area. At this event she will have along a variety of horn duets, trios and quartets to try. Student hornists should bring their instruments and music stands along.

Following each ticket purchase, the student will be asked for their current grade and most recent WSMA solo level, so appropriate repertoire will be selected for the day.

Drum Circles with Andrew Moreno in July, 2019, at "Family Music, Alfresco." Despite there being a heat advisory/100 degree weather that day, we still had some awesome and willing takers for our event! We are looking forward to hosting many more fun, interactive events such as this in the future.
