Join us for a small-scale early afternoon concert featuring Justin Jagler.

Folk. Blues. Rock & Roll.

Driven by rhythmic guitars and gritty Midwestern storytelling, Justin Jagler delivers soulful live performances across southeast Wisconsin and beyond. From the fan folk of “Stay Freaky, Giannis” to the punk rock of “Fake News Blues,” Jagler’s songwriting builds on a rich American tradition. www.justinjagler.com

The music will be on a grassy area just north of the wading pool/splash pad area, and just west of picnic areas 9 and 10. Check out this map for more info.

Open-Air Theory Retreat, Level 2 @ Estabrook Park

Attendees must register (purchase a ticket) in advance.

Students should secure their own copy of this book before the class begins, and bring it along. The following concepts will be worked through together:

The Theory section in Book Two begins with a review of concepts previously learned, then moves forward into more advanced lessons. Key signatures and the circle of fifths/fourths are introduced, and music reading progresses with new technique and expression markings. Students are introduced to challenging new rhythms, and melodic and harmonic intervals are explored. Each lesson is carefully reinforced through specific Review pages.

The class is taught by Mrs. Allison Schweitzer. She will hand out pencils to use, and have a piano keyboard available for the class.

The class will be held between the dog park and tot lot areas. Check out this map for more info.

Each attendee will receive a WMV water bottle upon completion of the class.

Should severe weather arise, there WILL be an indoor location available to us in Wauwatosa.

The Theory section of Excellence in Theory, Book One concentrates on learning the basic language of music that helps develop well-rounded musicians. Lesson & Assignment pages introduce staves, treble and bass clef. Time signatures, and simple rhythms. Melodic elements are presented in accidentals, enharmonics, and whole and half steps, as well as tetrachords and major scales. Each lesson is carefully reinforced through Review pages.

Find Us at Estabrook Park: The Estlund /Yanovskaya Duo @ Estabrook Park

Join us for a small-scale early afternoon concert featuring the Estlund /Yanovskaya Duo: a flute and classical guitar ensemble that performs music ranging from baroque to contemporary compositions. 

A native of Kiev, Ukraine Irina Yanovskaya combining an active performance and teaching careers. She has appeared as a soloist, and chamber musician in the United States and abroad. Irina graduated from Kiev Institute of Art and Music in 1994 under Victoria Zhadko with a degree in Classical Guitar Performance, Orchestral Conducting, and Guitar Pedagogy. Irina has over 30 years of experience teaching classical guitar to kids and adults. She is a member of the Suzuki and Pre-College Guitar Department faculty at University Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Irina is President of the Milwaukee Classical Guitar Society local non-profit organization dedicated to the art of classical guitar and education. 

While still in high school, Mr. Estlund studied with Mrs. Mary (Spalding) Peck (Chicago Symphony), and two years later with Elaine (Clear) Oberg who studied with Carl Petkoff. He played in Chicago Chamber Orchestra under Armand Baker at age 18. He began teaching flute lessons at the age of 19 in Lincoln and later Streeter, IL, while in college. He earned a BME from Illinois Wesleyan University, studying with Sylvia (Kendrick) Boyd, later earning an MME from Illinois State University under the instruction and guidance of Max Schoenfeld. He has performed with: Bloomington Municipal Band, Bloomington-Normal Symphony, Chicago Heights Symphony, Kankakee All-Arts Council Chamber Orchestra, and Kankakee Symphony, and many other groups on a freelance basis. He has also been a freelance soloist since the late 1960s. He was a public school band director in Odell and Braidwood, Illinois, and later in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He also taught applied flute at Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee, Illinois. He is currently teaching lessons in his home studio and doing freelance performing on flute and saxophone.

Family Music, Al Fresco: UWM Suzuki and Pre-College Guitar @ Estabrook Park

Family Music, Al Fresco: UWM Suzuki and Pre-College Guitar @ Estabrook Park

Students from the UW-Milwaukee Suzuki and Pre-College Guitar Program will offer a special performance on this day, showing off recent pieces they’ve learned on classical guitar.

Drum Circles with Andrew Moreno in July, 2019, at "Family Music, Alfresco." Despite there being a heat advisory/100 degree weather that day, we still had some awesome and willing takers for our event! We are looking forward to hosting many more fun, interactive events such as this in the future.
