Join us for a small-scale late morning concert featuring Eric Langford.

Mandolin in the bluegrass tradition. Old tunes fused with elements of jazz, blues, and swing.  Moods ranging from haunting melodies to upbeat stomps.

Eric was a member of the award-winning Liberty Bluegrass Band and has performed with several groups in the area. Listen to some of his music here.

The music will be on the easternmost end of the park, east of 49th street, just along the Oak Leaf Trail. Check out this map for more info.

Bring your own chairs/blankets for seating, and picnic food or beverages as you wish. Walk, bike or drive on over to meet us!

Attendees must register (purchase a ticket) in advance.

Students should secure their own copy of this book before the class begins, and bring it along. The following concepts will be worked through together:

The Theory section of Excellence in Theory, Book One concentrates on learning the basic language of music that helps develop well-rounded musicians. Lesson & Assignment pages introduce staves, treble and bass clef. Time signatures, and simple rhythms. Melodic elements are presented in accidentals, enharmonics, and whole and half steps, as well as tetrachords and major scales. Each lesson is carefully reinforced through Review pages. 

The class is taught by Mrs. Allison Schweitzer. She will hand out pencils to use, and have a piano keyboard available for the class.

The class will meet at the northern end of the park, about where Bottsford Ave. turns into Lake Drive. Check out this map for more info.

Each attendee will receive a WMV water bottle upon completion of the class.

Should severe weather arise, there WILL be an indoor location available to us in Wauwatosa.

Join us for a small-scale late morning concert featuring The Insouciant Guitar.

First you must pronounce it correctly:
in•sou•ci•ant /ɪnˈsu si ənt; French ɛ̃ suˈsyɑ̃/
Adjective: Free from concern, worry, or anxiety; carefree; nonchalant. 
Synonyms:
 Lighthearted, debonair, jaunty, breezy.
It is the opposite of up-tight and stressed out.

The group consists of two guitarists Keith Watling and Gare Hofstad playing amplified acoustic guitars. Together they perform as a instrumental duo or as an ensemble with other musicians.

Keith plays an acoustic arch-top guitar, Maccaferri D hole and bass. Gare plays his beloved Craviola a Brazilian nylon or steel string guitar with a unique body shape originating from Brazil.

They have played together for over 6 years in a variety of clubs, wine bars, festivals, gallery openings, as well as private parties and weddings. They have a vast eclectic repertoire reflecting their many years of performing together. Their styles include jazz, latin jazz, hot club jazz, rock, blues, pop and classical. They are based in the Wauwatosa and have played venues  in Milwaukee, Wauwatosa, Brookfield, Racine, Kenosha, and Madison. www.theinsouciantguitar.com

The Theory section in Book Two begins with a review of concepts previously learned, then moves forward into more advanced lessons. Key signatures and the circle of fifths/fourths are introduced, and music reading progresses with new technique and expression markings. Students are introduced to challenging new rhythms, and melodic and harmonic intervals are explored. Each lesson is carefully reinforced through specific Review pages.

Drum Circles with Andrew Moreno in July, 2019, at "Family Music, Alfresco." Despite there being a heat advisory/100 degree weather that day, we still had some awesome and willing takers for our event! We are looking forward to hosting many more fun, interactive events such as this in the future.
